LLAC NEWS

The Melbourne Track Classic will be held at the new Albert Park stadium on Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd March 2012. The event doubles as the 2012 London Olympic Trails meaning Australia's best athletes will be vying for qualifiers/positions for the Olympic team. The Club has tickets available at a discounted rate and will also be taking a bus which will leave the Velodrome oval on Saturday 3rd March 2012 at 3.30pm. Cost is $13 per ticket (Adult & child 12 years+), kids 11 & under free. Bus cost is $12. The following events will be conducted Saturday night -Men- 100m (Ambulant), 200m, 400m, 800m, 800m (Ambulant), 3000 Steeplechase, 5000m, Pole Vault, Long Jump, Javelin Throw, Discus Throw, Shot Put (Women) - 100m (Ambulant), 200m, 400m, 1500m, 100 Hurdles, 400 Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Discus Throw. The highlight will be the Women's 1500m, which former Leongatha Little Aths athlete, Kaila Hutchinson (McKnight) will compete in. For tickets please email David Green: leongathalac@gmail.com. Congratulations to all the LLAC members who participated in the Gippsland Country Region Junior Carnival & the Track and Field Championships over the weekend. Our athletes won 8 Gold medals, 19 Silver medals, 9 Bronze medals, achieved plenty of PB's and made new friends! Many thanks to our tireless parent helpers, Chief Officials and Team managers. The 2012 Junior Carnival for under 6 -8 athletes will be held on Saturday 18th February 2012 at the Joe Carmody Track, Newborough.Entries close on Saturday 17th December 2011. The 2012 Gippsland Country Region Track & Field Championships will held held at teh Joe Carmody Track, Newborough on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th February 2011. Athletes may compete in a maximum of 4 events. Cost is $7 per event. Congratulations to Eleanor Patterson, Wesley Graeme and Julian Patterson for their outstanding performances at the Victorian All Schools Track & Field Championships at Albert Park last weekend. Eleanor once again claimed the Victorian title in the Under 16 Girls High Jump clearing 1.80m. Brother Julian placed 6th with a 1.62m performance in the Men's Under 14 High Jump and Wesley Graeme claimed three medals over the weekend winning the Men's Under 14 Long Jump and placing 2nd in both the Triple (11.70m) & High Jump (1.68m),Click Here to view the full results.

The Victorian All Schools State Championships being held this weekend at the new Lakeside Stadium Albert Park will feature Leongatha LAC athletes, Julian Patterson (HJ), Eleanor Patterson (HJ) and Wesley Graeme (HJ, LJ, TJ, 400m). All the best from everyone at LLAC.

The Leongatha Little Aths season will commence on Saturday 8th October 2011 at the Leongatha Velodrome Oval, Leongatha Recreation Reserve at 9.30am. Our registration night will be held at SportsFirst Leongatha on Thursday 22nd September 2011, 4pm-5.30pm. Online entries will be available from 1st September 2011 via this website. Former Leongatha Little Aths member Kaila McKnight has advanced to the Semi Finals of the Women's 1500m at the World Championships in Daegu after a gutsy effort in the heats. Kaila watched the first two heats and realising that the times were slow took it out to the other competitors in her heat (3rd) setting the pace and leading into the bell lap. Kaila's time of 4.08.74min was enough for her to advance to the semi final, which will be on Tuesday night (8.35pm). Well done Kaila!

The Leongatha Little Athletics Club Cross Country Championships will be held in conjunction with the South Coast Athletics Club Championships at Mary MacKillop College, Leongatha on Sunday 31st July 2011. Leongatha Little Athletics member, Wesley Graeme claimed a silver and bronze medal at the recent Australian Little Athletics Championships in Sydney.

Congratulations to Eleanor Patterson (High Jump) on her selection in the Athletics Australia U/17 Development Squad. Eleanor along with her coach, David Green will attend a 3 day camp at the AIS, in Canberra 13-15th May 2011.

Congratulations to Wesley Graeme who has been named in the Victorian team, which will compete at the Australia Little Athletics Championships in Sydney on 30th April 2011. We wish Wesley, who will compete in Long Jump, Triple Jump & High Jump all the best for the Championships. Go the Vics!!

The 2011 IGA State Cross Country Championships are being held on: Sunday 3rd July 2011 at the Buninyong Community Facility, Cnr Cornish & Forest Streets, Buninyong (Ballarat). There is no qualifying standard to enter. Entries are now open via the Little Athletics website www.lavic.com.au. PLEASE NOTE: Payment must be made online using a Credit Card at the time of entry.

The Leongatha Little Athletics Annual General Meeting will be held on 22nd August 2011 at the Leongatha RSL commencing at 7pm.
